The War Within Mythic+ Guide – Season 3 (Patch 11.2)

Mythic+ Dungeons (M+) remain one of World of Warcraft’s most exciting and competitive end-game activities. They combine fast-paced, high-intensity PvE challenges with scalable rewards that rival raid gear—without demanding the same time investment as a full raid night.

With the launch of The War Within Season 3, Mythic+ has received significant updates: a brand-new dungeon pool, refreshed affixes, tuning adjustments, and a fresh set of rewards. This guide will walk you through every detail—from unlocking M+, to optimal gearing, dungeon rotation, affix strategy, and rewards—so you can dominate the competition.

1. What Are Mythic+ Dungeons?

Mythic+ dungeons are upgraded versions of standard 5-player dungeons, scaled by a “Keystone Level” system:

  • +0 is the entry-level Mythic mode, already harder than Heroic dungeons.
  • Keys scale up endlessly (+20 and beyond), increasing mob health, damage, and adding challenging affixes.
  • The higher the key, the better the rewards—both from the end-of-dungeon chest and The Great Vault.

The main appeal of M+:

  • Short, high-reward sessions (20–40 minutes).
  • Repeatable with no weekly lockout.
  • Competitive scoring system, similar to PvP ratings.

2. Unlocking Mythic+ in The War Within

To start running M+, you need:

  1. A Mythic Keystone – Dropped from completing any Mythic 0 dungeon or from your Great Vault.
  2. A Party – M+ is not queueable via Dungeon Finder; you’ll need to form or join a group manually.
  3. Font of Power – At the dungeon entrance, place your Keystone to start the run.

💡 Progression Tip:

  • Completing a dungeon in time upgrades your Keystone (+1 to +3 levels).
  • Completing it over time downgrades it by 1 level.
  • Failing a run still rewards loot, but at reduced item level.

3. Season 3 Dungeon Pool

This season’s rotation blends new content from The War Within with legacy favorites from Shadowlands:

4. Recommended Item Level

  • Entry-level +2 keys: 680+ ilvl recommended.
  • Higher keys (+8 and beyond): Aim for 695–705+ ilvl for smoother runs.
  • Strong coordination and class synergy can allow success below recommended ilvl, but damage checks will be tight.

5. Mythic+ Loot Table (Season 3)

The higher your key, the better your loot. Rewards scale for both the end-of-run chest and your weekly Great Vault.

6. Affixes in Season 3

Affixes add unique twists and difficulty modifiers. They appear based on Keystone level:

  • +4 – One Xal’atath’s Bargain affix (Ascendant, Voidbound, Oblivion, Devour).
  • +7 – Either Tyrannical (bosses harder) or Fortified (trash harder), alternating weekly.
  • +10Both Tyrannical and Fortified active at once (new this season).
  • +12Xal’atath’s Guile global affix.

New Affixes

  • Reckless – Non-mana mobs hit harder but take more Arcane damage.
  • Thorned – Non-mana mobs retaliate on hit, but take more Holy/Shadow damage.
  • Attuned – Mana-users deal more magic damage, but take more Nature/Bleed damage.
  • Focused – Mana-users have more Haste but take more Frost/Fire damage.

Retired Affixes

Afflicted, Entangling, Spiteful, Storming, Bolstering, Raging, and more have been removed for Season 3.

7. Rewards & Achievements

M+ in Season 3 features a robust achievement and title system:

  • Keystone Explorer – 750 score (intro level).
  • Keystone Conqueror – 1500 score (+5 keys across all dungeons).
  • Keystone Master – 2000 score (+10 keys across all dungeons).
  • Keystone Hero – 2500 score (elite level, top-tier players).
  • Unbound Hero – Top 0.1% M+ players in your region.

Keystone Hero Dungeon Portals – Completing a dungeon at +10 or higher in time grants a teleport to its entrance (account-wide).

8. Strategy Tips for Success

  1. Know the Dungeon Routes – Study pulls and skip routes from Raider.IO or community guides.
  2. Coordinate Cooldowns – Time major DPS/healing cooldowns for affix-heavy trash or boss phases.
  3. Adapt to Affixes – Change talents, gear, or even class compositions to counter the weekly affixes.
  4. Communicate Constantly – Call out interrupts, CC chains, and defensive cooldown usage.
  5. Bring Utility – Combat res, interrupts, and group mobility are key for high keys.

9. Why Choose M+ Over Raiding?

  • Shorter Sessions – 30–40 min per dungeon vs. hours-long raids.
  • Repeatable Rewards – No weekly lockout on end-of-dungeon loot.
  • Competitive Ranking – Mythic+ score creates a clear leaderboard chase.
  • Gear Parity – Top keys reward raid-equivalent ilvl gear.

10. Final Thoughts

Mythic+ dungeons in The War Within Season 3 deliver exactly what end-game WoW fans crave—tight, rewarding gameplay loops, competitive goals, and gear progression equal to raids. Whether you’re chasing Keystone Hero, perfecting your weekly Great Vault options, or just pushing keys with friends, there’s always another challenge waiting.

💡 Pro Tip: If you’re brand new to M+, start small (+2–+4) to learn routes and affixes, then ramp up once your group is comfortable. Pushing high keys without preparation can burn you out fast.
